Exam Season Begins!

Fall has arrived, and the exam season has officially kicked off. Are you aware that when applying to universities or vocational schools, there are exam fees (entrance examination fees)?

For universities and graduate schools, the entrance examination fees typically range from ¥30,000 to ¥40,000. At TCJ, we recommend our students to apply to at least three schools with varying levels of competitiveness: safety, target, and reach schools. This means you'll need approximately ¥100,000 for exam fees alone.

In the case of vocational schools, the entrance examination fees usually range from ¥20,000 to ¥30,000.

Furthermore, to qualify for admission to universities, graduate schools, or vocational schools, you may need to take additional exams such as the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), and English language tests like TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS. Here are the exam fees for each:

- Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU):
One subject: ¥10,000 / Two or more subjects: ¥18,000
- Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT): ¥7,500
- TOEFL iBT: $245
- TOEIC L&R: ¥7,810
- IELTS: ¥27,500

The results of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) are valid for two years, but most schools specify which exam results they require. Some may request either the June or November results from those who performed well, or they may require both sets of scores. Additionally, the required subjects may vary depending on the faculty or major.

For English language tests, some schools may have specific timeframes, such as requiring results from within two years of the application deadline.

If you aspire to pursue higher education in Japan, it's recommended to check the admission requirements of the universities or vocational schools you are interested in before coming to Japan. Understanding the required Japanese proficiency level and other subject prerequisites will help you plan your studies and prepare for the necessary exams. You will also need your final educational credentials and transcripts from your home country. To avoid regrets during the exam season, make thorough preparations.

At TCJ, we offer support where you can take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) up to two times for free during your enrollment. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
