Halloween in Japan: What’s the difference from the rest of the world?
Over the past decade, interest in Halloween has gradually increased in Japan, and along with it, the number of commercial advertisements has also increased. Scenes, images and costumes that used to be seen only at Tokyo Disneyland have become more common than ever before.
"Trick or Treat" is rarely used in Japan
For many Westerners, the first thing that comes to mind when they think of Halloween is "Trick or Treat". However, the custom of going from house to house saying "Trick or Treat" and collecting tons of candy does not exist in Japan!
If there is no "trick-or-treating" in Japan, what kind of Halloween would there be?
Halloween in Japan is, after all, a festival for adults who want to dress up in costumes.
However, the level of costumes for Halloween in Japan is different. In a sense, Halloween in Japan is something that can only be seen in Japan, where adults in full costume gather in the streets and make a big fuss.
If you want to enjoy Halloween in Japan, please observe social distance and good manners and have fun!
