ーTeriyaki and Teriyaki Burgersー
Have you ever heard about “Teriyaki”?
It is a general term used to describe a seasoning that can be described as one of Japan's soul foods (this is the writer's personal opinion).
Teriyaki is a Japanese dish in which chicken or fish is coated with a seasoning called "tare" made from soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar, and then grilled. Also, "Yakitori" (grilled chicken) and "Unagi no Kabayaki" (broiled eel), both flavored with sauce, are said to be a type of teriyaki.
The reason why the name teriyaki was given to this dish is because when grilled with this sauce, the surface of the dish has a beautiful "luster" (it looks like it is shining).
Teriyaki, a uniquely Japanese seasoning, is a delicious mixture of sweet and salty, and is widely enjoyed in Japan.
The teriyaki burger is said to have started in 1989 as it was created by the Japanese branch of the world-famous hamburger chain. It became explosively popular in Japan and spread to the rest of the world.
Whenever I go to a hamburger restaurant, I almost always order at least one teriyaki-flavored hamburger. I never get tired of it no matter how many times I eat it.
I hope that everyone overseas will come to Japan and enjoy the real taste of teriyaki!
