Today, I will introduce the Japanese slang meaning \u201cvery\u201d and verbs that add \u201c\u308b ru\u201d after katakana.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\t

\n\t\t\tBe Careful to Use Slangs\t\t<\/h2>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\t

You may be careful to use slang in your country. Even in Japan, you should. Before introducing slang, I will tell you 2 points to use.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

First is the person who you talk with.<\/p>\n

Have you ever heard \u201c\u307e\u3058\u3000\u3084\u3070\u3044 maji yabai?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c\u307e\u3058 maji\u201d means \u201c\u3068\u3066\u3082: very.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c\u3084\u3070\u3044 yabai\u201d basically means \u201cnot good\u201d or \u201cdangerous.\u201d But, recently, it has a lot of meanings such as \u201cvery good,\u201d \u201ctoo bad\u201d or \u201cvery tasty.\u201d We can use it in many ways and in many scenes.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When I asked about the meaning of \u201c\u307e\u3058\u3000\u3084\u3070\u3044 maji yabai\u201d to my 50 students who are exchange students or working adults learning Japanese, all of them knew the word. 41 students use the word in their workplaces or part time job places. Also, they told me that all of them use the word when they talk with their \u201cfriends\u201d and \u201cco-workers.\u201d They do not use it with seniors or people out of their company and they do not do it during meetings.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Even Japanese learners are careful who they say \u201c\u307e\u3058\u3000\u3084\u3070\u3044 maji yabai\u201d to. We should not use it with your boss or people out of your company or in formal situations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Second, Japanese slang often goes out of use quickly. The words Japanese people no longer use are called \u201c\u6b7b\u8a9e shigo: dead word.\u201d If you use a word just because it is commonly used by everyone, people will often think it is \u201c\u6b7b\u8a9e\u201d or that no one uses it anymore, so you need to be careful.\u3000For example, \u201c\u3070\u3048\u308b baeru\u201d means posting beautiful pictures on SNS. Japanese people used the word a few years ago but now we cannot hear it anymore. \u201c\u840c\u3048 moe\u201d is also one of \u6b7b\u8a9e, means the feeling that people like cute things, animals or idols. Recently, we use \u201c\u63a8\u3057 oshi\u201d that means cheering our favorite person instead of \u840c\u3048.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\t

\u307e\u3058\u304b majika, \u307e\u3058\u3067 majide, \u3046\u305d uso, \u3046\u305d\u3067\u3057\u3087 usodesho<\/p>\n

When bubble milk tea became popular, we often heard the word \u201c\u30bf\u30d4\u308b tapiru: drinking bubble milk tea.\u201d Nowadays, taking photos with instant cameras is popular, so we sometimes hear the word \u201c\u30c1\u30a7\u30ad\u308b chekiru: taking photos with it\u201d using the name of the camera. Some verb slang words are created along with the trends.<\/p>\n

This time, I chose words that Japanese people use in everyday conversation, regardless of trends.<\/p>\n

In TCJ, there is a nighttime class from 7 p.m. When we ask students the reason why they chose TCJ to learn Japanese, many of them answer that TCJ has classes that start at a convenient time. We have various classes from beginner level to advanced. We also have a JLPT class. Any classes are chosen to attend online or in-person. Learners who usually come to the classroom may also be able to attend online. When I ask them, \u201cWhy are you attending online today?\u201d, I get a variety of answers, such as \u201cI am in my office because of overtime,\u201d \u201cI am back in my country now\u201d and \u201cI\u2019m traveling, but I want to attend the class.\u201d Some of them even take the class from the train on their way home. On the other hand, some people who usually participate online from overseas come to the classroom and take the class when they come to Japan.<\/p>\n
