I entered the graduate school of Tokyo College of Music as a master’s student. Originally, I studied “Morin khuur”, a folk music of Mongolian people. This university is dedicated to the study of Japanese traditional music, and in 2020 it will establish a new field of “Multicultural Music Research” to study the development of various types of traditional music in modern society. I chose this university because these were the things I wanted to study.

I would like to continue my studies. After finishing my master’s degree, I would like to continue my doctoral studies and do more in-depth research on the traditional music I am currently studying. Nowadays, a lot of traditional music in both China and Japan has been forgotten and the music is losing its characteristics. I would like to pass on these unique traditional music to the next generation.

I think it is very important to study Japanese before coming to TCJ. If you don’t have a good foundation in Japanese, you may find it difficult to learn Japanese when you first come to Japan. After entering the school, you can study at TCJ’s self-study room outside of class time, so if you make good use of it, you will be able to improve yourself more quickly. Also, I want you to speak a lot of Japanese. Don’t worry about whether your Japanese is correct or not, the teachers at TCJ are very kind and helpful.
