Afternoon Intensive Class
Before enrolling, I just know katakana, hiragana and some vocabulary from Duolingo. Since, I know Chinese, recognizing basic kanji was not really a challenge because at least I understand the meaning. But when I started going to school, the challenge of reading kanji, memorizing a lot of new words everyday, verb conjugations & grammar, has come.
I found TCJ through the internet. On my 6th month in Japan, I searched & contacted 3 Nihongo Schools but no available slot for the semester that I wanted to. Then I found TCJ, browsed the website. It was convincing so I tried, I read something like this… ”CAN JOIN ANYTIME”. I contacted TCJ, did the exam online then went for an interview. The staff who interviewed me suggested that I join the class (I was a month late already)…so, the day after the interview, I enrolled & started my lesson at TCJ (1 August 2025). I am still here because I find this school suitable for my schedule, I like the school events (cultural, outing etc…), supportive & wonderful staff. Keep it up!
I have many Japanese friends here in Tokyo. After 3 months of studying Nihongo, I can already answer some of their basic questions and every time I see them (maybe after 5-6 months studying) they say that I have improved a lot so they challenge me more by talking to me only in Nihongo. Now, on my 8th month of studying at TCJ…I could say, yes! “私の日本語が上達しました”。
I like more when the teacher gives more example of phrases/sentences when we learn new words or grammar patterns. And when the teacher gives the students the chance to do the readings of the example sentences. I prefer “quality than quantity”! I know our class is an intensive class but too many grammar patterns in a week, I think it is too much & too fast. In my own opinion, it would be ideal to have a kind of review together of the grammar and example of sentences of the new words learned the day before (many times we just learned words & memorized them). I also prefer to have the lessons schedule posted in Google classroom.
I love a warm & friendly class atmosphere but since most of the time I’m the only student in class, it’s a bit hard to have this kind of atmosphere. I’m lucky, I got friendly & clever teachers!
