1-Year 6-Month Academic Preparation Course

This is a 1-year 6-month program designed for students who aim to continue their education at universities, graduate schools, or vocational schools in Japan. Within a limited period of time, students efficiently develop the Japanese language skills required for further study, while building the practical skills needed as a foundation for specialized and academic learning after admission, as well as the ability to think and act independently.

In this program, classes are organized according to each student’s desired pathway, whether university, graduate school, or vocational school. Dedicated curricula and examination preparation are provided for each pathway. Students focus on the vocabulary, expressions, and sentence structures needed in everyday academic settings while preparing efficiently for further education.

In the first year, students improve their ability to understand texts and conversations on familiar topics and to express their own experiences and ideas in Japanese (CEFR A1–B1 level). While deepening their understanding of higher education in Japan and their future options, students consider the pathway that best suits them and develop the ability to study systematically toward their goals.

In the second year, students develop the ability to understand social topics and the main points of somewhat complex texts and lectures, and to communicate their opinions clearly with reasons and examples (CEFR B2 level). They also work on preparing statements of purpose and research plans, as well as interview preparation, developing the practical ability to consistently communicate their strengths and future goals in their own words.

At TCJ, we support students throughout their journey, from improving their Japanese language skills to preparing for further education, as they work toward achieving their goals. By making effective use of the limited period of study, students independently carry out the learning and preparation they need while aiming to realize their desired educational pathway.

Applicants must have completed 12 years of formal education in their home country or possess an equivalent or higher level of education.

As a general requirement, applicants should also have Japanese language proficiency equivalent to JLPT N5 or higher, or have completed at least 150 hours of Japanese language study. Admission is determined based on an interview and the prescribed screening process.

In addition to the regular study abroad program, this course allows you to take 1-on-1 lessons with a professional Japanese language instructor during your enrollment. It is ideal for those who want extra lessons on top of standard classes to ensure they achieve their desired career goals.

Along with your classroom homeroom teacher, you will be assigned a dedicated personal instructor. By combining three hours of daily class lessons with five or more hours of weekly private lessons, we will create a tailored schedule to help you realize your future plans.
