Before enrolling, what was your biggest challenge when learning Japanese?

While I would study kanji and vocabulary, my grammar and speaking skills were very limited.

Why did you choose TCJ out of all the schools?

It is the most comprehensive program I have taken. Many courses focus only on grammar and vocabulary.

Please share a specific example of a time when, after taking a TCJ class, you felt that “my Japanese was understood!” or “I’ve improved!”

Toward the end of N4, there was a class where I could say plain form verbs and adjectives smoothly and without too much effort. I used to really struggle with plain form, after that I started to feel more confident with verb conjugations.

What do you like most about the teacher’s teaching style and the class atmosphere?

Every teacher has their own personality and energy that they bring to the classroom. I like that many teachers are curious about us and ask us about our cultures. I also like how the more outgoing teachers are spaced out throughout the week. It balances out the week in a good way.

Please share a message for those who are still undecided about enrolling.

There are a lot of programs and courses out there the offer Japanese courses, but not all Japanese schools hire quality teachers. Between talented retirees and struggling part time workers, not all Japanese teachers can put in as much care and respect for students time and money. TCJ teachers have passion for teaching and the classes are treated like a full time job. Teachers plan and implement lessons in their own styles, keeping the class going at a good pace. Part time or full time, you really can’t go wrong.
