CLUB TCJ Summer Festival Held!

Savoring the Last Days of Summer Together!

On Monday, September 28, 2026, at 14:00, TCJ Tokyo held the “CLUB TCJ Summer Festival Event.” Around 15 students joined us on the day, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Although summer was drawing to a close, many participants had never attended a Japanese summer festival before, and the venue was filled with excitement and anticipation.

How Do You Wear a Yukata?

One of the highlights of the event was the yukata dressing experience. A yukata is a traditional Japanese garment worn during the summer, commonly seen at summer festivals and fireworks displays. All participants — both male and female — were helped into their yukatas by our staff. For many, it was a rare chance to wear one, and everyone looked absolutely delighted!

After getting dressed, participants also enjoyed a range of classic summer festival game booths, including colorful yo-yo fishing, a kendama challenge, and ring toss. Everyone gave it their all in pursuit of a high score, and the venue was filled with laughter and energy throughout.

Practicing Bon Odori in Yukata!

No summer festival is complete without Bon Odori! Still dressed in their yukatas, participants took on the challenge of learning this traditional Japanese folk dance.

First, everyone practiced the moves over and over again while watching a video. The steps were unfamiliar, but everyone threw themselves into it with big smiles. Finally, the whole group formed a circle and danced together. Seeing students from so many different countries joining hands and dancing Bon Odori together was a truly warm and memorable sight.

Voices from Participants

We heard wonderful feedback from participants, including: “It was my first time wearing a yukata and I was so happy!” “Bon Odori was surprisingly difficult!” and “It was wonderful to experience Japanese summer festival culture firsthand!”

The event wrapped up in a lively and warm atmosphere.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated!
