How long have you learned at TCJ?

June 2026-December 2026

Which course are you taking?

Morning Intensive Class

Before enrolling, what was your biggest challenge when learning Japanese?

My biggest challenge when learning Japanese was consistency and practice. Despite living in Japan, it can be scary wanting to interact with people in Japanese despite knowing speaking is the only way to improve. Even when practising alone, the experience of speaking to actual people is very much different than having teachers and classmates who can actively practice with you, and that you don’t feel embarrassed with since they are in the same boat and environment too.

Why did you choose TCJ out of all the schools?

I chose TCJ because of the flexible arrangement (able to attend either online or in person), variety of Japanese-speaking activities (tea workshops, etc) and intensive extra-classes whether you want to improve your speaking or study for JLPT.

Please share a specific example of a time when, after taking a TCJ class, you felt that “my Japanese was understood!” or “I’ve improved!”

I would say I have improved in terms of my confidence in speaking Japanese with people. Being in a classroom and knowing other classmates are also struggling, has helped improve my mindset in just speaking even if its not perfect. While I would also say grammar/vocabulary wise I have been improving as well, this confidence is the most important thing to me.

What do you like most about the teacher’s teaching style and the class atmosphere?

I like the immersive, friendly atmosphere that the teachers build. Immersive because we all have to think and speak only in Japanese and try our best not to use English, and even when theres a difficult concept to understand, the teachers try to simplify it in Japanese.

Please share a message for those who are still undecided about enrolling.

I think if you are looking for a school that encourages Japanese practice even outside the formal classroom, with workshops and extra classes, and even help with settling in Japan and job hunting, choose TCJ 🙂
