CLUB TCJ Matcha Event Held!
Everyone Gathered to Enjoy Matcha Together!
On Monday, June 29, 2026, at 12:30, TCJ Tokyo held the “CLUB TCJ Matcha Event”🍵
Around 25 students from beginner to advanced levels joined us — from those who had never tried matcha before to those who already love it — bringing together a wonderful mix of participants.
The first half of the event featured a lecture all about matcha, covering its taste, temperature, aroma, appearance, and how it’s made. Even those who thought matcha was “just bitter” seemed surprised to discover just how deep and fascinating it really is.
What Tools Do You Need to Make Matcha?
We also gave a detailed introduction to the tools needed to prepare matcha. The five essentials are: matcha powder, a tea bowl (chawan), a tea whisk (chasen), a tea scoop (chashaku), and hot water. Simple as they are, each tool plays an important role.
We also did a live demonstration of how to whisk matcha — and while it looked easy, participants quickly found that the wrist snap needed to move the chasen was surprisingly tricky! Everyone had a great time giving it a try.
Matcha Is Delicious!
The matcha used at this event was authentic, sourced from Uji City in Kyoto Prefecture.
One of the special touches of this event was that before whisking, each participant decided in advance who they were making the matcha for. Preparing a bowl with someone specific in mind — putting your heart into every whisk — made for a truly meaningful and memorable experience🍵
Matcha Quiz Time!
The second half of the event featured a Kahoot quiz battle all about matcha! The competition was fierce, the laughter was non-stop, and a great time was had by all.
After the quiz, participants chatted freely about their work, their Japanese studies, memories from their home countries, and their cultures — and connections between students grew stronger than ever.
Students of different nationalities and levels came together to experience Japanese culture, learn from one another, and share plenty of laughs. It was a truly wonderful event.
